Question of the Day. What is your favorite work of visual art? What painting, sculpture, etc. speaks to you? Who created it and what does it mean to you?
I think one of my favorite paintings of all time is "Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose"" by John Singer Sargent. I saw it at the Tate gallery while I was visiting a friend in London over Christmas vacation. It's a painting of two young girls in a garden surrounded by white flowers. The painting is set in the early evening just after sunset, and the girls are lighting Chinese lanterns. There's just something about the quality of the light in the lanterns that absolutely fascinates me. I could look at it forever.
